The New Kent Roundabout is a multiphase project in which Branscome Richmond is being contracted by Resource International to construct traffic calming roundabouts at both the east and west on/off-ramps from SR-106 to I-64 in New Kent County. This project supports a large housing, retail, and commercial development project just north of the intersection. The first of its kind in Virginia, the roundabouts replace the typical traffic signals at the ramps and direct traffic around large circular islands to both slow and enhance traffic flow at the intersections. This type of traffic-calming flow control is used successfully in Maryland in similar situations. Road widening, turn lane development, storm drainage, earth excavation and grading are included in our scope of work, as well as complex traffic maintenance. This project is scheduled to start in April 2008 and be completed in April 2009.
