In April, the new printer cartridge plant in Newport News, VA will be completed and turned over to Canon. Branscome is extremely proud of all the work we’ve done on this project. The fact that this project was delivered on time and on budget is a testament to the hard work and flexibility of our crews and the great cooperation between all the contractors on the site.
When Branscome was awarded the contract to do the site work for the Canon plant, there was a lot of work to be done and not much time to do it. Before construction could begin, the entire 700,000-ft2 site had to be cleared and the building pad needed to be constructed.
As always, our crews responded. In less than three months, the site was cleared and one-third of the building pad was finished. This allowed construction of the building to begin ahead of schedule, ensuring that the 2009 deadline could be met. The finished building pad required more than 100,000 tons of sand and 35,000 tons of stone.
Over the next eight months, Branscome performed fine grading, placed stone for a loading dock, installed the utilities, paved roads and parking lots, and provided all of the concrete for the project. Our crews not only performed their jobs at the highest level, but they did so despite having to work at a blistering pace on a very crowded job site. It was a great team effort by all of our people.
Branscome would also like to thank all of the subcontractors we worked with on this project. Due to the short timeline on this job, it would have been impossible to succeed without them. Special thanks to Waltrip Clearing and Grubbing, Gary Bruce Incorporated, George Nice, Commercial Seeding, Jerry Stewart, and Rick Height. |
